10K steps equals around five miles so by the end of the month you’d have walked 150 which is about the distance from London to Manchester.
WSHQ® has some handy tips on how you can reach your goals this month.
“There are plenty of ways you can hit your daily target - rack up the numbers by walking to work instead of driving, taking the stairs instead of the lift or escalators, go for a family walk at the weekend, or even giving the dog a month of extra walks or if you haven’t got one you could offer to take your friends or family’s dog.”
“Don’t worry if one day you don’t get your steps in, you can always get the steps up across the next week.”
“It’ll help you get fit and feel amazing as you step up to raise money for life-saving cancer research. Whether you walk to work, take up jogging, or give the lift a miss, the money you raise will help thousands of people in the future.”

]]>Around 7 million people are currently living with heart and circulatory diseases in the UK and cardiovascular and heart disease causes 420 deaths in the UK every single day with death rates being highest in Scotland and the North of England.
WSHQ is keen for UK residents to use February’s National Heart Month to change their own habits and introduce more exercise and a better diet into their lives.
WSHQ says “Most people know someone or have themselves been directly affected by heart disease and the saddest part is a lot of times it is avoidable by changing lifestyle habits.”
“Simple changes in diet by reducing your salt intake and eliminating processed foods and trying to get a few hours of exercise a week can make a huge difference.”
“A healthy diet reduces the risk of coronary heart disease and prevents weight gain which puts pressure on your heart, healthy nutritious food also helps to prevent further worsening of existing heart disease and it’s not too late to start now.”
To help prevent heart disease WSHQ has come up with five foods and exercises to change your lifestyle and take better care of your heart.

Dry January is a public health campaign urging people to stop drinking alcohol for the month and last year (2018) 3.1 million people took part in the UK.
WSHQ is taking part this year because of all the health benefits of going drink free for a month.
WSHQ says: “Across the month, your body is likely to benefit greatly from giving up alcohol. Better hydration and better sleep will improve your overall wellbeing. Your liver, stomach and skin will also have benefitted from not dealing with the nasty effects of booze.”
“If you usually drink average amounts for the UK person you’ll also have reduced your calories by 3840 for the month. For example, if you normally drink six glasses of 175ml wine a week.
It’s even higher for beer drinkers saving around 4320 calories over the month if you used to drink six pints of lager a week.”
One final piece of information WSHQ has, if you think it’s not worth doing:
“People who quit alcohol for just be a month are 72% more likely to more mindful about drinking excessive amounts of alcohol in the future and with the health benefits of quitting you’ll see a difference to your body and your mood.”
